The Tremiti islands and the Adriatic Arcipelago
The Tremiti ( or Diomedee) Islands, in the province of Foggia, are part of the Gargano National Park and one of the most popular tourist attractions in the area. Ferries for the islands leave from Termoli, approx 35km from the Grotta del Saraceno holiday village, the crossing time is 1 hour. The Adriatic Arcipelago is historically linked to the mythical hero Diomedes, in fact in ancient times the islands were called the Diomedee Islands. The archipelago includes the islands of San Nicola ( home to the main monuments and the largest share of the population), San Dominio ( with its Cala delle Arene beach, the only sandy beach in the archipelago), Capraia (deserted), Pianosa ( 20km from the other islands), Cretaccio and La Vecchia two clay cliffs a short distance from San Domino.
